Temperament
The Alaskan Malamute is an affectionate, friendly dog, not a « one-man » dog. He is a loyal, devoted companion, playful in invitation, but generally impressive by his dignity after maturity.
Care
The Alaskan malamute loves cold weather. She can run for miles and needs to have adequate exercise every day, either in the form of a long walk on leash or the opportunity to run or mush. She does better inside during warm weather. Her coat needs brushing once or twice a week, more often when shedding.
Alaskan Malamutes are very energetic and active. If you have the space they will run and play outside all day. Make sure to monitor them if the conditions are too hot.
Cool climate, lots of exercise, lots of grooming, and training.
Health
The Alaskan Malamute has a very thick and coarse coat and would do well with a good brushing twice a week. They are very heavy shedders and there undercoat comes out in clumps twice a year. Bathes for this breed really aren't necessary as they easily shed dirt. Also as an energetic working dog they do best with some space to run or a walk at least twice a day.
Training
Even if it is friendly, this dog is also stubborn, with a personal thinking. In this case, the training must be made by an experienced person, able to understand its character. The training must be firm, well-balanced, consistent, pretty varied, because it is an intelligent dog and understands easily what is required. It can also follow agility contests, even it wouldn't be the best here.
Coat & grooming
The fur of this dog must be combed during the shedding period to remove the dead hair bristles.
Fun facts
Beware of puppy-mill dogs as health and temperament problems are occurring. This breed can be difficult to housebreak. The Malamute likes to roam in what he considers to be his territory, so he must have a well-fenced yard. Massively heavy shedder during
