Care
The cavalier needs a fair amount of exercise every day, either in the form of a moderate walk on leash or a romp in a safe area. This is not a breed that should live outdoors. His long coat needs brushing every other day.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an active and sporting breed that requires regular exercise to help keep their heart healthy. A fenced yard is a must, as they will give chase to anything that moves. They are able to adapt to apartment or condominium living provided there is a small yard.
Exercise, grooming, and an indoor lifestyle
Health
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel must be brushed weekly to prevent mats and tangles. Special attention must be given to the hair behind the ears. The Cavalier has a tendency to develop heart abnormalities early in life. It is extremely important to have regular veterinary examinations. They are also prone to allergies, deafness, cataracts, and diabetes.
Training
It is a dog, which understands pretty easy what is required and eager to learn and therefore is not hard to train. With a consistent, gentle training the wished results can be achieved.
Coat & grooming
The fur should be brushed regularly to avoid getting tangled and to remove the dead hair bristled. The ears will be kept clean. They are a little greedy at food, and predisposed to obesity.
Fun facts
These dogs love people and need lots of companionship to be happy. They shouldn't be left alone all day. They are descended from hunting dogs and love to romp in the great outdoors. This breed displays a chasing instinct - keep well-enclosed or leashed so
