Temperament

The Picardy Sheepdog is even tempered. It is neither aggressive, shy nor nervous. It should be both obedient and fearless. These qualities enable it to easily accomplish its work which consists of driving and protecting flocks of sheep. It is also a very good guard for the home and an excellent family dog who enjoys close contact with children.

History

The French Spaniel is a descendant of the bird dogs described by Gaston Febus and used in the Middle Ages. Its ancestors are more than likely at the origin of the diverse varieties of sporting Spaniels. Through selection it developed into the elegant and athletic dog, pointing very firmly, which today excels in working trials. The first standard was drawn up in 1891 by James de Connick; it has been revised several times since, and adapted to the diverse evolutions of the breed.

Training

The training of this dog is easily to make because it is submissive and wants to make pleasure to its master. The training must be consistent, well-balanced, gentle and affectionate.

Coat & grooming

The fur should be brushed regularly to remove the dead hair bristles, not to get tangled and keep its beautifullook. The hair grown in excess fromears and between the pads of the legs must be cut.
