Temperament

Happy, intelligent, toy spaniel, with distinctive domed head. Reserved, gentle and affectionate.

History

An obvious relative of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, this dog is known in some countries as the English Toy Spaniel, and derives his name from a dog which was a great favourite of King Charles II. Toy spaniels have long been treasured as pets both in England and on the Continent and were bred to a smaller and smaller size from setter dogs which established the type for spaniels. Basically these were little gun dogs, but pampered by wealthy owners, admired for their companionship and crossed with toy dogs from the East, giving rise to their facial appearance.

Care

Although he enjoys a nice walk on leash or a fun game in the house or yard, the English toy spaniel is not overly active and his exercise needs can be met with minimal effort. He does not do well in heat and is temperamentally unsuited for living outside away from his family. His long coat needs combing twice weekly.

The English Toy Spaniel requires very minimal exercise. They are well suited for apartment living. This breed is capable of meeting their exercise needs indoors, but does enjoy short securely leashed walks.

Grooming.

Health

The English Toy Spaniel requires regular brushing to keep shedding to a minimum. Bathing should be done when necessary using a mild shampoo. It is absolutely crucial to daily cleanse the ears and eyes of this breed. As a short-faced breed they have a tendency to snore and wheeze. They do not do well in hot and humid climates or in being overly-exerted. English Toy Spaniel's are prone to such health issues as heart disease, ear infections, slipped stifle, eye problems, and respiratory problems. This breed must be protected from extreme heat and cold.

Training

With a consistent, gentle, affectionate training, man can get the wanted results, because it is pretty intelligent dog to understand what is required and it's wishful to learn.

Coat & grooming

This fur of this dog must be brushed regularly, twice a week, especially in the places where it can tangles (thorax, behind the ears, between paws) and for taking off the dead hair. It must to keep the ears clean and washed with a special solution the wrinkles from the face level.
