Temperament
Lively, spirited, self assured and evenly tempered. These qualities make him an agreeable family and companion dog.
History
Miniature Pinschers were kept in large numbers around the turn of the century already and the Stud Book for 1925 records no less than 1300 entries. Like with the German Pinscher, from the numerous colour variations, only the colours black with lighter markings and solid red to red-brown were thorough-bred.
Care
The min pin needs lots of activity. Because of his small size, his exercise needs can be met indoors or out; regardless, he needs several play sessions every day. He enjoys a romp outdoors in a safe area, but hates the cold. This is not a breed to live outdoors. His coat is virtually carefree, requiring only occasional brushing to remove dead hair.
Definitely an energetic fellow that requires exercise. Good for apartment life, but a regular romp and play would quickly satisfy the curiosity of this breed. A few short walks per day should also be sufficient. This eager little breed is sure to keep your on your toes.
Exercise, socialization, supervision with children and training.
Health
Miniature Pinschers have a very spirited personality, which requires energy and patience. A very low maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. Wipe down with a cloth daily to remove excess hair would be sufficient for this short haired and average shedding breed.
Training
It can be easily trained because it is able and eager to learn. It must be socialized with other animals since a pup, to avoid any possible conflicts with other dogs and other animals.
Coat & grooming
The fur of this dog needs an occasional brushing during the moulting period.
Fun facts
Don't overfeed. Protect this dog from extreme cold. Can be aggressive with other dogs. A very healthy breed, but watch for slipped stifles.
