Care
The Pekingese enjoys a leisurely walk outdoors, but she is equally happy to romp inside. She can easily die of heat prostration. She must be kept in air conditioning in warm weather. She is an ideal apartment dog. The coat will mat unless combed at the very least weekly, preferably more often. The over-nose wrinkle should be cleaned daily to avoid infection. The coat around the anus must be inspected daily for soiling. Pekingese tend to snore!
The Pekingese is able to have the majority of their exercise needs met indoors with play sessions. They benefit from, and greatly enjoy short walks a few times per day. They make excellent apartment or condominium dwellers.
Attention, training, socialization and grooming.
Health
The Pekingese requires diligent daily brushing to prevent tangles, knots, and mats. They need to be dry shampooed regularly. Their faces and eyes must be cleaned daily with a damp, soft cloth. They do not tolerate warm or damp climates, and become over-heated or chilled quite quickly. The Peke is prone to breathing problems, eye problems, herniated disc, and dislocated kneecaps. Special care must be given to not overfeed as they gain weight easily.
Training
Even it is an intelligent dog, its independent side and its stubborness predominate. It chooses who's the boss. Still, with firm, consequent traning, without beenig harsh but encouraging, without punishing it harsh when it's wrong (in this case it becomes introverted) it can be tought some demeanour rules. Contrariwiseit will act as it wants to.
Coat & grooming
The fur of this dog must be combed and brushed frequently especially in those places where it can tangle (belly, feet, knukles of the legs). They must be taught since an early age with the brushing for not having problems later. The wrinkles from the face need care for not to get infected, the ears must be kept clean and the excess hair between the pads of the paws must be cut.
Fun facts
Some bloodlines are prone to eye, spine, and respiratory problems. Like many short-faced breeds, the Pekingese may wheeze and snore and is sensitive to hot weather. Can be a picky eater. He does not tolerate rough handling, and can be injured easily - not
