History

Sheepdog used in the Alentejo region for herding and watching different kinds of livestock; sheep, cattle, horses, goats and pigs. An austere and rustic dog perfectly adapted to the area?s temperature changes and with great endurance for covering long distances herding livestock through the Alentejo plains.

Training

It needs a firm and consequent training, made by a person with a lot of patience, without an attitude too severe, otherwise you can't achive the wanted results. Being a stubborn and independent dog, it needs a master with a strong character.

Coat & grooming

It needs a casual bruhing and combing, for not getting tangled its fur; but not too often for not busting the fur's look. A comb with spaced teeth will be used. The hair in excess between the pads of the legs will be cut. At bath will be used just a little shampoo.
