Temperament

Although noble and haughty, he is very attached to his master and defends him in case of need. With an instinct of hunter, capable of sustained effort, he also appreciates the home conforts.

History

The Sloughi has existed for many centuries in North Africa. Nowadays most Sloughis are to be found in Morocco which is responsible for the standard. The Sloughi exists only in a single short-haired variety.

Care

The Sloughi requires daily exercise and makes an excellent jogging companion. They prefer to be involved with family activities and thrive on attention. They will do okay in an apartment or condominium dwelling provided they are sufficiently exercised and stimulated. They enjoy securely leashed walks and playing in a safe and highly fenced yard.

Health

The Sloughi requires occasional brushing with a firm bristle brush. Bathing or dry shampooing should be done only when necessary as they have very dry skin. They do not do well in cold climates. With the capability to reach speeds of 37 mph this breed will become so focused on the object they are chasing that they quite quickly find themselves in perilous danger.

Training

The training of this dog must be made by a person with experience in raising dogs, with patience. With a firm, consequent training without being harsh and creating a respect connection between the dog and the trainer, pretty good results can be obtained.

Coat & grooming

The fur of this dog doesn't need to much grooming. A casual brushing is enough.

Fun facts

A robust breed, Sloughis are vulnerable to only a few genetic disorders, including progressive retinal atrophy. The breed is also sensitive to anesthesia and some other kinds of medication, including some vaccines and de-wormers. In general these dogs don
